Day to Day

Momentum

The streaks you're protecting. Each day is a simple binary — the streak is going, or it broke — and the page keeps the count, the record, and a year-long map of how you've held the line.

The idea

Momentum is for the habits where consistency is the habit — no alcohol, daily exercise, whatever you're holding onto. Each tracker is a named streak. Every day you log it as Going or Broke, and the streak counts your consecutive Going days.

The rule is deliberately strict: one Broke day resets the streak to zero. That's what makes a long streak worth protecting — and what makes Day 1 after a break a real restart, not a footnote.

Good habits, too

Where Pitfalls is built for bad habits you're trying to break, Momentum works just as well for good habits you're trying to build. Name the streak for the thing you want to do every day — exercise, read, meditate — and make the rule breaker skipping it. Now every Going day is one you showed up, and the streak is the run of days you kept it going.

Creating a tracker

You create trackers, define rule breakers and log each day in the Momentum section of the Daily Log; the Momentum page is the read-only report. A tracker has a name, an optional description (rich text, up to 1000 characters — shown behind Show description on the Momentum page), and up to 10 rule breakers — the specific behaviours that end the streak.

Tip

Write rule breakers down even though they feel obvious. "No alcohol" is vague at the edges — is one glass at a wedding a break? Deciding before the moment arrives is exactly what the list is for.

Logging your day

Each tracker shows two action cards for the day: Going (Streak alive) and Broke (Streak reset). For past days, open the Month history grid and tap any day to cycle it: no entry → Going → Broke → cleared.

Reading the Momentum page

The Momentum page shows one tracker at a time — pick it with the Momentum tracker selector, and your choice is remembered per year. The tracker's name, description and rule breakers appear up top, read-only; editing happens on the Log page. Then the streak itself:

CardWhat it tells you
Current streak beganThe hero: the date your active run started, with a Day counter — "N days in — and counting."
Current StreakThe same run as a plain number of days, with its start date.
Record StreakYour best run this year, with its date span. Try to beat it.
Times BrokenHow many times the streak was lost this year — from "Never broken yet" on up.
!
Incomplete data

If there are unlogged days between your first and last entry, the page shows an Incomplete Data alert and hides the Times Broken card — with gaps in the record, that count would mislead. Fill in the missing days on the Daily Log and it comes back.

The 12-month heatmap

Below the cards, a full-year calendar shows every day for the selected tracker: green for going, red for broke, dimmed for no data, and a ring around today. Each month card carries its own going-and-broken tally, and the header sums the year — the streak as a shape you can actually see: long green runs, and the red days that reset them.
